1. Memorial Stadium & Facilities
  2. 2011 Stadium Renovation

June 2011

A couple of dry weeks a lot of work has been done. The stadium is starting to take shape and it will be a different shape. The main entrance and pass gate will be switched. The main ticket booth will be where the ramp was previously. As you can see the ramp and hill are being lowered significantly. Everyone will purchase tickets and DeWitt fans will turn to the left to enter the home stands up a slight ramp toward the press box or up a grand set of stairs near the north end of the seats. The new concession stand is nearly complete in the corner of the building to the left of the gate. Rest rooms have been added where the DeWitt team room used to be. One of the biggest changes is on the visitor side. Additional seating has been added and is now 10 rows of bleachers that stretch from the 5 yard line to the 5 yard line. The new visitor side has a capacity of 1,500. The home side will still have capacity of 3,200.

The team rooms at the south end of the home side is now enclosed. It will house two team rooms with restrooms, a referee locker room with shower and a trainer room.

The field is looking great and the drain lines have virtually filled in.

A waise to go. Will it be ready in time?

  • This is the location of the new ticket booth. This ramp will be lowered further. The windows of the concession stand are still boarded up on the building to the left of the photo. Nope, that is not the new rest rooms at the top of the ramp.

  • Another view of the access ramp. If you look closely, there is a red flag just to the left of the light pole and another one nearly to the left end of the hand rail. That will be the location of the stairway.

  • Standing along the new access ramp toward the press box. What in the world are these horizontal borings for? Well, not man made. Swallows have built nests in the side of the hill.

  • Looking from the press box toward the north end fo the field. The high jump pit will remain in the same location. As you can see the field, well except along the sideline, looks fantastic. Due to the natural waterway, some significant drainage retention areas had to be built outside of turn 3.

  • WOW! The bleacher section to the right is the old "big section" of bleachers. The old small section was condemmed. It had to be marked, torn down and documented it was destroyed. A new pad was poured and the old big section moved to the south. That section had a capacity of 500. The new section is handicapped accessible and seats 1000, for a total capacity on the visitor side of 1,500.
